Unfortunately, this vital element of the "sling-tether-jackline" set is often overlooked or, even worse, is often the result of a "do-it-yourself" assembly done by a non-safety specialist.</p> <p></p> <p>Plastimo reminds you of the basic rules:</p> <p>- A jackline should be armed only on strong points designed for that purpose.</p> <p>- The strong points must be mounted across the deck, with a reinforcing plate below deck, and must withstand at least 3 tons.</p> <p>- A jackline must run without knots, and sewn joints must be tested and calibrated. Jacklines should be placed as far inboard as possible to avoid falling overboard.</p> <p>- Mesh jacklines will not roll underfoot, unlike rope. Being made of fiber, jackline webbing is subject to aging, even without visible signs, due to UV rays, seawater and temperature. Ideally, jacklines should be disassembled, rinsed and stored in a dry place for winterization.
