It is not a very cheap reel nor suitable for those who are beginners, but it is a tool with a very high technical figure that can satisfy the most demanding fisherman as well as the garista. The body is very compact in order to increase the robustness and smoothness, which is enhanced by a gear that works on a high-precision mechanism and built with high quality materials. The aluminum spool has been lightened by making a series of perforations that compromise neither its solidity nor the balance of rotation. In evidence also the carbon crank, extremely light and at the same time reliable and precise, embellished by a high density EVA knob for a secure grip at all times. Returning to Italy at the end of the 1960s his passion for the sea combined with some Venezuelan deep-sea fishing experiences led him, since in those years there was a lack of specific products for Big Game, to design and build the Gladiator reel. After a few years of testing (which was followed by patent application nr. 31039) and excellent practical results he began the production of the Gladiator also assisted by other collaborators. Some time later Mr. Ricò thought of contacting Carlo D'Olivo president of Italcanna to improve the commercial diffusion of the product, and shortly after in the 1970s Mr. D'Olivo personally became part of the Gladiator company and then took it over completely a few years later upon the death of his friend Sergio. For all these years the Gladiator company produced highly specialized equipment for deep-sea fishing such as rings, handles, etc. The Gladiator has over time always stood out for its simplicity of operation and elegance, and was the first reel in the world with an electric contact sound beacon for shoaling (it could operate the boat siren or other electric means - 1st prize Spoga Koln 1979 - Germany). In the following years due to a strong demand for the product, production agreements were also made with other companies that further improved the quality level. The reel GLADIATOR is the perfect match for Italcanna rods and together they have won over the years numerous Italian, European and World Championships (as visible in the news area) as well as several catch records. Technique, experience but also deep passion for sea fishing are therefore at the basis of a Gladiator reel that is now made of anti-corrosion alloy and stainless steel (on high-speed bearings) and is a real strong point on the market for lightness, performance and reliability. Every single computer-designed component is then made on extremely precise machining centers, and using it you will appreciate the innovative lever non-return system (by means of a free wheel) and the easy adjustment of a cam-driven carbon clutch that does not allow for errors from over-tightening or wigging due to full spool release. The special off-center ergonomic handle made of reinforced abs allows not only a better grip, but also makes it easier to hold because it is always upright, as well as transmitting more power to the axle. The elegance of the nickel/anti-corodal contrasts is enhanced by laser engravings that will not fade or fade over time. Completely revamped in aesthetics and materials, the new gladiator reel replaces the previous version from which it differs in greater simplicity of construction, weight reduced by a third, practicality of use, cutting-edge materials, high aesthetic level and also technological innovations on the non-return system (free wheel) and clutch lever guided by means of a cam (patented systems)that prevents any wigs of the line and the accidental complete tightening of the spool. Also by pressing a button located on the lever ,it allows the insertion of a reduced gear, which is particularly useful for reducing the effort in fights. The operation of the second speed is very simple and quick. It is completely constructed of light alloy and stainless steel with an elegant off-center ergonomic handle that makes it easier to grip and allows more power to be transmitted to the 'axle. The double hook assist at the head and the single hook at the tail, both made of carbon steel with 3D Cut tips, are attached to sturdy full-section jigs via a PE lanyard. There are manufacturers who ensure the excellence of their product, extolling its qualities of abrasion resistance and ratio of diameter to breaking strength. Always evaluate your choice according to the type of fishing you want to do. It would make no sense to try to catch conger eel on a very rough bottom with a 7-kilogram line, because if the line does not break at the first obstacle it encounters on the bottom, the conger eel will take care of it as soon as it bites. Before buying line, therefore, evaluate the conditions you will encounter. Once you have determined the most suitable breaking strength, go for a brand-name product. Fishing lines for shore fishing have different breaking strengths depending on the species you intend to target and the type of bottom you are fishing on. In general, to fish from open beaches, a 6.8-8 kilogram mother line and a 22-27 kilogram end line are used. On the other hand, to fish on rough seabeds, it is necessary to choose a mother line of greater strength, up to 15 kilograms, capable of overcoming unscathed the obstacles it may encounter along its path. To fish for bass with plughi or spinners, on the other hand, it is better to choose a light 4-5 kilogram line, which guarantees a more natural behavior of the bait and the possibility of longer and more fluid casts. If weights are to be applied, it is also important to use a shock leader, which is a heavier section of line tied to the end of the main line, usually in yellow or orange fluorescent material to be more visible when retrieved during night fishing trips or in bad weather. The shock leader serves to protect the mother line as it prevents it from breaking.
