<p>If weights are to be applied, it is also important to use a shock leader, which is a heavier section of line tied to the end of the main line, usually in yellow or orange fluorescent material to be more visible when retrieved during night fishing trips or in bad weather. The shock leader serves to protect the mother line as it prevents it from breaking.</p>
