<p><b>Spearfishing in apnea</b>, also known as <a href="https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pesca_(attivit%C3%A0)" title="Pesca (attività)">spearfishing</a>, is a <a href="https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pesca_(attivit%C3%A0)" title="Pesca (attività)">fishing</a> activity practiced with the technique of immersion without the aid of autonomous breathing equipment, then with the holding of breath<a href="https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apnea" title="Apnea">(apnea</a>), generally with the use of <a href="https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maschera_subacquea" title="Maschera subacquea">diving mask</a>, <a href="https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeratore_(subacquea)" title="Aeratore (subacquea)">snorkel</a>, <a href="https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinne_(subacquea)" title="Pinne (subacquea)">fins</a> and <a href="https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fucile_subacqueo" title="Fucile subacqueo">speargun (arbalete or oleopneumatic rifle)</a> or hand <a href="https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiocina" class="mw-redirect" title="Fiocina">spear</a> or with elastic, and for protection from the cold and possible abrasions from contact with rocks, etc., often with the help of a <a href="https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muta_subacquea" title="Muta subacquea">wetsuit</a> and its <a href="https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zavorra" title="Zavorra">ballast</a> for buoyancy compensation, is one of the various <a href="https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pesca_sportiva" title="Pesca sportiva">sport fishing</a> activities but is also framed and practiced for <a href="https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pesca_subacquea_professionale" title="Pesca subacquea professionale">professional spearfishing</a> activities.</p>
<p>The equipment consists of: speargun, wetsuit, fins, mask and aerator, ballast, buoy marker. Spearguns, listed among the tools allowed for sport fishing by art. 138 letter.e of D. P. R. 1639/68, can be compressed air or elastic propulsion (arbaléte) and allow a single shot at relatively modest distances, contained in the best case within 3-4 m. It is preferable for long stays in water the use of a wet suit with special characteristics of insulation, adherence and elasticity. The wetsuits normally used have thicknesses between 3.5 and 7-8 mm. and are preferred without zippers and single-lined, dark-colored or camouflaged to better conceal the presence of the fisherman. Fins are generally long with a technopolymer blade or in the more modern versions in composite (carbon fiber or fiberglass). The mask must guarantee good wearability, excellent field of vision and contained volume. This last characteristic becomes more important in the case of deep dives in which it is necessary to compensate for the increase in pressure by introducing small, precious quantities of air, in order to avoid crushing and the resulting suction effect. Extremely small masks make it possible to significantly reduce the amount of air required, but they restrict vision and can be uncomfortable to wear. An aerator is a tube, preferably short and wide, that allows the diver to breathe at the surface. The ballast consists of a belt that holds lead soaps, on average 1 kg each, in quantities relative to the depth of exercise and the thickness of the wetsuit. The buoy marker is a float, inflatable or rigid, bearing a red flag with a diagonal white stripe, a signal of a submerged man. It is perhaps the most essential accessory of a kit for freediving fishing, as well as compulsory by law. Possibly of generous dimensions that allow the sighting from a great distance. The fisherman must operate within a radius of 50 m from the vertical of the buoy and the boats can pass not less than 100 m from the same for obvious security reasons.</p>
